Back in 1984 a client asked for assistance in enabling the passing of parameter data from the EXEC statement to a COBOL program being invoked by DFSRRC00 the IMS Batch Region Controller.

A solution was developed to meet that customers needs, and all was forgotten until September 2002 when the question of how to do this very thing was raised on one of the IBM News Groups.

The original code had been produced on a MVS 3.8J long before the current Language Environment was available. The original code was dusted down and inspected and the results of compilations and testing on an OS/390 V2R9 system are enclosed in the attached notes obtained by clicking this link. The note are in Adobe Acrobat format.

As there was no IMS database to test against a dummy DFSRRC00 was used to ensure that the modules were called in the corret sequence, and that the data from the EXEC statement PARM field eventually arrived in the COBOL program.
