Even when it comes to cocktail bars there happen to be a variety of types, and each offers its own unique experience. From lounge bars that offer more formal experiences to laid back garden bars with light appetizers and a casual atmosphere, each type is different.
1. Service Staff That Are Attentive
For venues of this type, the staff must be very attentive. When I first arrive at an establishment I always pay attention to the way the staff behaves on my arrival. The top cocktail bars always have staff that is well-trained that greet each guest in a welcoming and friendly manner as soon as they arrive. The staff should also seem happy and excited to see you. After all, any venue would not be worthwhile returning to if the staff have an attitude or don’t seem to care about their guests.
2. An Inviting And Comfortable Atmosphere
Similar to any other type of bar, the overall atmosphere in cocktail bars is also very important. Regardless of whether it is a small and intimate venue, or one of the large lounges, you want to feel welcomed and comfortable from the moment you arrive to when you decide to leave.
Whether the establishment serves casual cocktails or a formal lounge with speakeasy cocktails, you should take notice of your mood. Think about how the bar makes you feel?
To begin with, the overall vibe from the managers and staff is very important, yet you should also account for physical characteristics like the music, lighting, and décor. How does each factor contribute to your overall experience? I personally find this question important, as my answer is the deciding factor on whether I plan to return to this venue into the future.
3. Fantastic Cocktails
Of course, the main highlight of any cocktail bar will usually be the drinks. I enjoy visiting places that serve delicious and decadent cocktails, along with something unique. You are able to find great cocktails in just about any establishment, yet the bars that create both daring and unique drinks are usually the ones I will definitely visit again.
I am not trying to say that cocktails are only great when they are pushing the boundaries of mixology and science. But I do enjoy drinks that extend past the common Gin and Tonic when I do go out.
4. Friendly Patrons
There are customers that can either take away or add to your experience. When I go to a cocktail bat I watch how the staff and patrons interact, along with how the customers are interacting with one another.
There are occasions when I visit cocktail bars to enjoy a chat and relaxing drinks with my friends. If the customers are disruptive, rowdy, and loud it can ruin the experience.
Patrons that are able to show respect for one another and the overall space of the venue is one of my important components when I look for a great cocktail bar.
5. Value
When looking for a great cocktail bar, a venue that is priced reasonably should be another important factor. I understand that combining unusual ingredients and the application of creativity does not come cheap, but exorbitant prices really annoy me.
This doesn’t mean I look for the cheapest cocktails, and I believe in the saying “you get what you pay for”. Going out is something I think of as a luxury, which is why I am more open-minded when it comes to paying a bit more for delicious and creative cocktails.
